Studio – Stolen

Since 2004, I’ve worked primarily with non-professional models, drawn to their stories and experiences as much as their physical forms. Using the conventions and composition of an existing painting which holds personal significance to my model, I weave their own responses to the questions posed by the own choice of visual inspiration. At once, both formal and absurd, these paintings are populated by anecdotes and unclear references which show a portrait of my model more accurately than a straightforward path. – Watie White
