A few years ago, I started seeing my friend Kris Akse more. He had been my undergraduate roommate, and we had maintained an active friendship for much of the 25 years I have known him. For the past three years, Kris and his family have welcomed my family to spend a week at their Wisconsin cottage. Its an incredibly beautiful and active week spent outdoors on the lake near Holy Island, one of the most picturesque and geographically inspiring places I’ve been.
This year, I happened to be in the middle of a series of large-scale woodcuts and was looking for a landscape. Finding new motivation and focus was the relief that came from our Wisconsin trip this year, resulting in two new original large-scale woodcuts with a 25-year backstory.
